Birdwatching
Kids, and adults, will want to spend their whole day playing at the splash pad. We rented a camper van for a week to visit Rocky Mountain National Park for the elk rut and Custer State Park for the Buffalo Round-Up and had a blast. The program was easy to use and we really enjoyed the freedom of having a camper van for that trip.Click here to rent an RV.

If you’re headed on a Norwegian cruise to the western Caribbean, chances are good your ship will stop here. You will also have a view of the Mayan mountains where the ruins are located and go through pine and hardwood forests.

You will be taken on a 15 minutes boat ride off Harvest Caye, to Belize mainland, where you will get on to an air-conditioned bus that will take you to the excursion. Head on to the beach, grab a lounge chair, put on some sunscreen and enjoy your beach day. Behind, the pool area, across the pavement is a 7-acre beach lined up with at least 2,500 lounge chairs. There are plenty of lounge chairs surrounding the pool, for you to relax in. Palm trees are featured widely at the swimming pool area, even within the swimming pool, to provide shade and also gives you a beach-like sort of vibe. At the center of the cruise port area, behind the directions board is the Blue Morpho butterfly and wildlife/nature sanctuary.
Available tours include the Mayan archaeological ruins, a tropical spice farm, savannah ecotours by boat, rainforest river tubing and rafting excursions and more. Whether you opt for a day of fast-paced activity or prefer a day laying in the sun, Harvest Caye will surely impress. Norwegian Cruise Line owns the entire island, which includes a saltwater lagoon, a large freshwater pool, and wildlife exhibitions including a butterfly house. The island welcomed its first cruise ship passengers on November 17, 2016. But every aspect, from the covered walkway to and from the pier to the spacing of the palm trees is well-engineered to make for a great customer experience.
Spread across two islands, the 75-acre Harvest Caye is the only port in Belize to feature a cruise ship pier. The port also caters solely to Norwegian Cruise Line passengers. Travelers will experience the renowned natural beauty of Belize while also enjoying all they could want from such a tropical destination.
Paddleboarding/Kayaking (Paid)On the backside of the island is a calm area of water that features a number of bends and turns for guests to use stand-up paddleboard or kayaks. The area is roped off from the surrounding water (so you don’t have to worry about taking a wrong turn into the open water). It’s also a bit out of the way so you can feel like you’re out on your own without going far. Beach (Free)Across from the pool is a scalloped cove of the beach that runs for hundreds of feet. There are ample lounges and umbrellas, as well as shaded “clamshell” covers that you can rent for $39 for the day.
Or play jumbo-sized chess on a chess mat, with chess pieces the size of a 3-year-old. The beach features white man-made sand, made from crushed seashells. The ocean provides warm turquoise blue ocean waters common to the Caribbean. There is plenty of shade available from the many palm trees present on the beach.
There is a 12.5% Tax and 15% Service Charge at RestaurantsAs we mentioned above, food and drink on Harvest Caye is pricey. On top of that, however, is an additional 12.5% tax and then another 15% for a service charge (in place of a tip). In other words, a $10 cocktail on the menu will actually cost you $12.75 all told. Harvest Caye sits at the southern end of Belize, about 50 miles north of the border between Guatemala and Honduras. And while it is an island, it sits only about a mile from the mainland and roughly five miles from the town of Placencia.
